What to expect

Shiatsu is traditionally administered lying down on a comfortable futon base, to allow the recipient total relaxation. Loose clothing is worn, such as loungewear and you will be made comfortable with the addition of pillows and bolster cushions as required. Limbs are gently stretched and rotated individually and palming and thumbing techniques applied in a ‘press and release’ style to encourage gentle energy circulation.

Another great option is the massage chair, especially when a customer’s mobility doesn’t allow for lying down on the futon base, or perhaps if time constraints don’t allow for a full body treatment.

A favourite with male customers, this highly portable option lends itself to a mobile service being easily administered in both home and work settings. Also a favourite with residential home customers too.

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of acupressure massage, which works on the same principals found in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. Namely it uses our own innate energy pathways to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities, in order to bring about a healthier state of balance, improve circulation and reduce both physical and emotional tension.

Both palm and thumb pressure is applied to points along the energy meridians and individual energy points may occasionally be held for a minute or so in order for the receiver to gain the most benefit from the work being carried out.
